SSD Upgrade for Laptops in Malaysia (2026): Speed, Price & Installation

An SSD is the single best upgrade for an old laptop. Here's SATA vs NVMe explained, what to expect for speed and price in Malaysia, and how we migrate your data with no reinstall.

If your laptop still has a mechanical hard drive (HDD), upgrading to an SSD is the single most dramatic speed improvement you can make — bigger than a new CPU or extra RAM for everyday use. Boot times drop from over a minute to under 15 seconds, and apps open almost instantly. Here's everything you need to know to upgrade in Malaysia.

SATA vs NVMe — which do you need?

  • SATA SSD (2.5" or M.2 SATA): ~550 MB/s. A massive jump over any HDD. Best for older laptops (pre-2019) that don't have an NVMe slot
  • NVMe SSD (M.2 PCIe): 3,000–7,000+ MB/s — many times faster than SATA. Ideal for laptops from ~2019 onward with an M.2 NVMe slot
  • Not sure which your laptop supports? We check for free during diagnosis and recommend the right type

What real-world difference does it make?

  • Boot: 60–90 seconds (HDD) → under 15 seconds (SSD)
  • Opening Chrome/Office: 8–15 seconds → near-instant
  • General responsiveness: no more 'not responding' freezes from disk bottlenecks
  • Bonus: SSDs draw less power (slightly better battery) and have no moving parts (more durable)

How much does an SSD upgrade cost in Malaysia?

Two parts: the drive itself, plus installation and data migration. As a rough 2026 guide, a quality 512GB–1TB SSD ranges from around RM150 to RM500 depending on type and brand. We migrate your existing Windows, apps and files to the new drive so you don't reinstall anything — see pricing for service details.

For modern laptops with an M.2 slot that want maximum speed, the Samsung 980 Pro (PCIe Gen 4) is top-tier:

Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD 1TB PCIe Gen4

Samsung 980 Pro NVMe SSD 1TB PCIe Gen4

PCIe 4.0, up to 7000MB/s read. Samsung MLC V-NAND. Top-tier M.2 2280 for gaming and workstations.

💡 We always clone your existing drive rather than wiping and reinstalling — your Windows, programs, and files move across exactly as they were. No 'setting up your new laptop' from scratch.

Can I just do it myself?

On many laptops the SSD is one of the easiest DIY upgrades — but the data migration (cloning the OS to the new drive correctly) is where most people get stuck, and a wrong move can lose data. If you're confident, browse our SSDs in the shop. If you'd rather it just work, we handle the whole thing — supply, install, and migrate — with free pickup & delivery across Klang Valley.
